Years ago I had someone take some .wav files I had and edit them. He merged
sounds, adjusted volumes, and turned them into smaller .swf files for my pages.
How does one go about this? What software do you need? What exactly is a .swf
file? I'd like to create some.....

A quick google search would have revealed this as the top answer:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SWF

They are flash files. If you have Adobe Flash, you can create swf files.

As Nancy says, a SWF file is created by Flash. However, you don't
convert a WAV file into a SWF. What happens is that you use the SWF to
load the WAV and play it. It's not a conversion.

Flash is quite a complex program to master, and loading external
resources like sound files requires the use of ActionScript. It's not
particularly difficult, but it's definitely more complex than just
clicking a few icons onscreen and having everything done for you.

You will get more detailed assistance in the Flash or ActionScript
forums if you want to explore this further.

Like Nancy says, SWF is Flash. I'd suggest using an audio editing
program to convert your .wav files to .mp3. The file size of a .mp3 can
be made much smaller than the corresponding .wav.

You can then get a free Flash MP3 player at
