Locked File

Hello I'm new to Dreamweaver so I apologize ahead if this is a dumb question.
so here we go...
A friend of mine built my website and gave me all the files so i could begin
to handle the site my self. I tried to update the site but dreamweaver told me
the pages were locked and that i could view them but not change them. My
friends version of Dreamweaver is 8 and I just have MX. I was wondering if that
had anything to do with it. also He has a PC and I a Mac. could that be the
problem. I would really appreciate any help with this problem.

a guess- you received the files on a CD?
if yes, when you copied them to the HD they were locked.

go to that folder on the Hard Drive using Finder.
Select the files, and Get Info. Make them read/writable there.

Unfortunately that didn't work. I checked the info and nothing was locked but
i still was unable to update anything. I checked the link as well but none of
the info there seemed to get me anywhere. I'm fairly new to this web building
stuff.

Where are the files??

Try this-
in Dreamweaver, expand the Files Panel.
right-click (or command-click) on the root folder.
Is "unlock" a usable menu item? then try that.

My files are in my root folder on my desktop.
I righted clicked on the root folder and there is an unlock option. I chose it
and it still won't work. When I right click on any of my .html files the unlock
option is there but unusable
I wonder if my friend needs to do something on his end. could that be a
possiblity.
