We recently switched to a new host/server, we maintain multiple sites in a team
environment using Dreamweaver and Collaborate, and we are now having a problem
that didn't occur on our old server.

When we try to connect to a site via Dreamweaver FTP, we get the following
error message, and synching between local/remote and team members is "broken":

Dreamweaver cannot determine the remote server time. The Select Newer and
Synchronize commands will not be available.

Please advise.
Thanks in advance.

Try enabling passive FTP in your remote site definition.

Thank you. That does work. Can you explain why this works? Is this just a workaround, or a fix that addresses some server configuration I'm unaware of?

Thanks again in advance.

It breaks the requirement that each packet transmitted by DW be acknowledged
by the server. What is probably happening is that your firewall is breaking
the two-way communication in such a way that DW never gets the return
packet. By enabling passive FTP, you tell DW to just ignore that break. A
better solution would be to find out why the Firewall is blocking the return
packets from the server, and then re-enabling non-passive FTP.

I just started having the same problem. I have 3 sites I manage and I get the
same response when I try to put files to the server at Interland. I can see my
files using the remote view. I tried enabling passive FTP but it didnt make a
difference. Any others have this problem?

What has changed in your local environment since you last connected? SP2?
Firewall? Antivirus?

I just found out what the problem was. I had let my log files accumulate and
they had taken up all of my server space. Once the log files were deleted
everything was back to normal and I was able to put files again without
receiving that message. I guess many paths can lead to the same problem. Thanks
